Calming an Anxious Mind

September 20, 2023

Today, let’s stop and consider for a moment, how much time and energy you spend on worrying about stuff. You worry about all sorts of things, don’t you? You spend time worrying about yourself, about other people, about small things and larger things, in fact, most of us could easily waste masses of time worrying about absolutely anything at all! How funny! Have you ever really thought about what the process of worrying gets you? Well, it might get you a headache, or dis-ease, ill health and sleepless nights. It might get you blemished skin, unhealthy looking hair, weight gain or loss, demotivation and procrastination. Worrying may also get you alone and without a job. Wow, worrying can achieve a lot can’t it? Are these really the things that you want to have in your life? Of course not, so perhaps it’s time to discover how to stop worrying and calm your mind?

What is worry? Well, another name for worry is anxiety. if we really chunk up the thinking to a higher logical level, worrying or anxiety are fear. Fear of the consequences of the past and fear of the future, which all crashes together to have a devastating impact on now. We sometimes call it anxiety, sometimes stress and lots of other labels in between. Essentially, it’s fear and fear is a really debilitating emotion. Fear clouds your thinking, it blocks your energy to get things done and ultimately stifles all of the other emotions like motivation, happiness and joy. The paradox about fear is that if we didn’t feel it, then all the things we worry about wouldn’t exist in a negative way, they would exist in the antithesis of fear.

Anxiety is an emotion about the future and generally speaking, falls into one of two categories:

Specific Anxiety - This is when you get anxious about an event in the future that you know is going to happen and in which you are going to be involved in some way. This type of anxiety is simply created by focussing on what you don't want.

Generalised Anxiety - The difference here is that it feels as if the anxiety is with you all the time, in every context of life. This type of anxiety is created by fear.

Whatever nature your anxiety takes, it can be removed without the need for pharmaceuticals, in a natural and comfortable way. Let's explore that.

It’s much more useful to move towards something you desire rather than to move away from something you fear. A moving towards way of thinking allows you to use highly positive emotional content to drive you towards something that you want to achieve. That might well be happiness, excitement, energy, confidence, determination, feeling powerful and empowered, whatever state is positive and motivating for you. Feel how much positive energy these emotions have when you compare them to fear, uncertainty, embarrassment, failure. There’s a clear difference in how these two different sets of emotions drive you towards getting what you want or away from getting what you don’t want.

Let’s look at a common example. One of the greatest sources of anxiety that people generally have is money. Let’s be really clear here, people are not worried about the money itself, the money is doing just fine, they are worried about not having enough of it, so they are in fact fearful of poverty. If all your energy and focus is channelled towards the concept of being poor, then that’s what you will create, poverty. Energy flows where attention goes. If you turn your energy and focus towards what you want, for example, abundance, then that’s what you will create.

I'm sure you fully understand this concept and are now shouting at your screen, 'I'd love to do that, how can I when I have such anxiety about everything!' I fully agree, the anxiety, worry and fear need to go out of your neurology first. Let's get controversial, I would like to offer the postulation that depression, stress, anxiety and panic attacks are not illnesses as such, they are states of mind that can in turn create physiological dis-ease (mis-spelling intentional).

I have met many strong, successful, confident and wonderful people who have unconsciously adopted one of these states of mind and been completely debilitated as a result. Daily life becomes a constant struggle and little bumps in the road seem like mountains of Everest proportions. So why does this happen? Well, with NLP thinking we are not so much concerned with why, we are really interested in how this happens. Each individual creates their problems in a unique way and when we fully understand how they do it, then we can assist them in easy and effortless change.

There is a very comfortable way to eliminate the anxiety and mis-placed fear from your thinking. It is a very specific technique which is taught in detail during our Enhanced NLP Coach Practitioner Certification training. It is called Time Line Therapy®.

Time Line Therapy™ has three major components:

 Releasing negative emotions from the past, including anger, sadness, fear, hurt and guilt

 Removing limiting beliefs and decisions

 Removing anxiety about the future

So, why remove negative emotions from your past, how does that help anxiety about the future?  Some past memories carry with them something which for you is unresolved and incomplete.   The unresolved baggage is the negative emotions that you experienced in the past which are now residing, without an invitation within your body.  These squatter emotions manifest as an emotional weight attached to certain memories and they still weigh you down as you continue to carry them around. The most common clinical manifestation of this effect is anxiety.

Many people put up with anxiety and don’t even know that the underlying cause of their underperformance is what they are carrying unconsciously inside.  All those past negative emotions that they experienced and all the limiting decisions about themselves get stored up and filed away, in a self-perpetuating loop, without an exit.

After completing Time Line Therapy®, you actually set in motion a beneficial feedback loop that leads to even greater level of mental and emotional health.  As you remove the emotional chains of negative emotions accumulated in your body’s memory from past events, you have an easier time dealing with anything life throws at you.  Once you experience freedom from past unresolved negative emotions and you begin to let go of your limiting beliefs and decisions about your own capabilities, life suddenly becomes filled with success and no anxiety!

At our Enhanced NLP Coach Practitioner Certification Training, we will guide you mindfully and carefully through each step towards an anxiety free life to empower you to work with your future in a productive way.
